Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana – Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that under the Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), free LPG Gas connections will be provided to 3 Crore additional families by March 2022. An additional expenditure of Rs 4,800 crore will be incurred on this. Pradhan Mantri UjjwalaYojana was launched in May 2016. It aims to provide LPG connections to 5 crore households in three years. Under this, 3.36 crore connections have already been given. 

Details of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

Giving information to the reporters about the decision of tomorrow’s Cabinet, Pradhan said that 5 Crore free LPG Gas connections will be made available till 2018-19 and the total budgetary allocation is Rs 8,000 crore. Now the duration of this scheme has been increased one year and in addition to 5 crore, connections will be given to three crore families. A provision of Rs 4,800 crore has been made for this.

1600 Core Subsidy Under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

Under the scheme, the government provides subsidy of Rs 1,600 crore to the public sector retail firms for each free LPG connection. Under the subsidy, the amount of security deposit for the cylinders and the cost associated with it. The beneficiary has to take a stove to make his own food. In order to reduce this burden, the beneficiaries are allowed to pay the stove and the amount of gas cylinder for the first time in installments.

A Family Fills 14.2 kg Cylinder Seven Times

Pradhan said that so far the connection is given on the basis of 2011 socio-economic caste census (SECC), but the list has been expanded and in this all the Scheduled Castes: Scheduled Tribe families, forest dwellers, extremely backward classes, islands, tea gardens Beneficiaries and beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Antyodaya Yojana were also included. He said that the study of 2 crore beneficiaries out of total 3.36 Crore PMUY beneficiaries has shown that 80 percent of the households have re-loaded after taking the LPG connection. The minister said that on an average, a family manufactures 14.2 kg cylinder seven times, while PMUY beneficiaries are using 4.07 cylinders. He said, “It is a very encouraging consumption trend.
