Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Himachal Pradesh – Today, the Central Government’s ambitious scheme Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) has launched in Himachal Pradesh by the Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan in the presence of CM Virbhadra Singh and Union Health Minister JP Nadda. This scheme has been launched to provide LPG connections to the women of poor families of the state who uses coal, kerosene, wood etc for cooking food.
According to Pradhan, in order to expand the PMUY scheme, about 50 new distribution centers and two more bottling plants would be opened in the state soon. This would also generate employment opportunities to the youth of the state.

According to him, so far the central government has provided about 2.25 crore LPG gas connections in the first year of the launch of this scheme nationally and states like Odisha, UP and Bihar. Priority was given to those states where the number of LPG users was low.
The main motto of the scheme is to distribute about 5 crore LPG connections to the women of the BPL (Below Poverty Line) families across the nation. According to him, these are 16 lakh houses in the state (Himachal Pradesh), of these 14 lakh houses had LPG connectivity. In UP nad Bihar it was much less than the national average.
According to the reports, today the total number of active LPG consumers in the country had crossed 20 crores and there had been a quantum jump from 14 crores in 2014. Pradhan said that a total amount of Rs 8,000 crore had been set aside by the central for the implementation of this scheme over the upcoming three years.
He added that the PMUY scheme will also help to the poor women by providing better health. As per the reports, about 5 lakh woman die every year by inhaling noxious fumes from the use of wood and other fuels for cooking.
