Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana PMUY – 5 Crore Gas Connection Distribution TargetIn May 2016, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was launched with the objective of providing clean fuel to the poor families to make food and to provide them a healthy environment. After the launching of the scheme, the Central Government had set a target of providing free LPG connections to 5 crore households within 3 years. Then, it was ensured to provide benefits to the families living below the poverty line according to the socio-economic and caste census conducted in 2011. For this, the government had allocated a budget of Rs. 8000 crores. This goal was completed before the scheduled time.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana PMUY – 9.27 Crore Ration Card Holders Are There In CountryIn view of the success of the scheme, during the last budget, the Finance Minister has given an additional allocation of Rs 4800 crores for this. With this, the goal was increased and by 2020 it was ensured to benefit the 8 Crore families. So far 5.8 crore families have benefitted under the scheme, which is much less than the target of 8 Crore families. Now, the Central Government has decided to open the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana for all the poor people of the country. Significantly, there are a total number of 9 crore 27 lakh ration cards in the country. After new changes, millions of people will avail the benefits of this scheme.
