On Saturday, the President of India Mr. Pranab Mukherjee distributed the 2.5 croreth LPG connection under the Central Government’s ambitious scheme‘Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana’ (PMUY) in his former Lok Sabha Constituency Jangipur of West Bengal.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was launched under the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narender Modi’s mission with a motto of providing “clean fuel better life” to all women belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) and to make the rural households smoke free.
This LPG Connection scheme was first launched on May 1, 2016, at Ballia in Uttar Pradesh with a target of distributing five crore LPG connections to the BPL families across the country under it. In three years, the government completed half of its target with providing the 2.5 crore connection to the BPL beneficiaries of Jangipur, reports news agency ANI.
As per the reports, along with the President Pranab Mukherjee, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Congress MP Abhijeet Mukherjee were also present on the occasion. Abhijeet Mukherjee has been elected from the Jangipur constituency twice after his father became the president in 2012.
